PLEASE POST: 2012 NERRS Graduate Research Fellowship Competition Flier

Professors and Researchers,

We are looking to increase the number of students in social science and inter-disciplinary programs reached by our program announcement each year so, if you have not received this announcement in the past, please read on.  The National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) serves as a living laboratory and platform for investigations in the natural and social sciences.  We fund graduate students in these fields through our Graduate Research Fellowship program.  The NERRs’ Graduate Research Fellowship program offers qualified master’s and doctoral students the opportunity to address research questions at local, regional, or national scales. Proposals may be submitted for 1, 2, or 3 year projects and are based on the student’s interest, Reserve’s local needs, and the Reserve System’s national priorities.  Fellows conduct their research within a National Estuarine Research Reserve(s) and gain hands-on experience while conducting research that results in improving coastal management issues and enhancing our understanding of estuarine ecosystems.  In the 2012 competition, we anticipate 9 openings for master’s degree students and Ph.D. candidates at 9 National Estuarine Research Reserves (NERRs).

Attached is the 2012 competition flier for you to print, post, and forward along to your contacts, listservs, etc. As the program coordinator for the Graduate Research Fellowship program, feel free to send inquiries to me.  My contact information is listed in the funding announcement and on the program website at  http://www.nerrs.noaa.gov/Fellowship.aspx.  Interested students should contact the Research Coordinators at the National Estuarine Research Reserves where they propose to study – contact information for On-Site Reserve Staff is contained in the funding announcement.  Proposals may be submitted for up to three years of funding and may focus on a single reserve or multiple reserves.   The program’s federal funding opportunity number is NOAA-NOS-OCRM-2012-2003083  and the deadline for applications is November 1, 2011.

Thanks in advance for your help in getting the word out about this program.  Apologies for cross-postings.

Have a great day,

Alison JG Krepp
